NCAP Give Back Opportunities

As we enter the holiday season, we wanted to share two opportunities to give back to the DC community. We've included information on the organizations below, one effort is organized by an NCAP swimmer and the other by an NCAP coach. We hope you will consider donating or sharing the information with family and friends looking to give back to children in the D.C. area!

A Wider Circle Toy Drive

organized by NCAP AU Athlete, Elena Harrison

For the past two years, Elena has organized a Holiday Toy Drive within the NCAP AU/Holton sites. This year, we are expanding to the whole team! Each year, Elena has collected toys to donate to A Wider Circle, a non-profit organization that helps individuals and families rise out of poverty. Through their partnership with the DC Housing Authority, A Wider Circle hopes to provide gifts to over 10,000 children living in public housing in Washington DC.

HOW TO DONATE:

Toys can be purchased from A Wider Circle: Amazon Wish-List. You can find numerous different toys, ranging in prices. However, you are not restricted to the Wish-List. You can buy and donate any gift you would like.

  • Shipping Option: You can send toys directly to Elena’s house @ 5 Pepperell Ct. Bethesda MD, 20817.
  • Drop-off Options at Turkey Claus and NCAP Invite:
NCAP will have bins to drop off your toys at UMD during Turkey Claus and NCAP Invite. The bins will be available at the athlete entrance of the meet where credentials are located.

Please contact Elena with any questions at [email protected]. Remember, it doesn’t have to be something big to make a big impact in another person’s life.

SWIM UP Silent Auction
organized by NCAP AU Coach, Mary Bergstrom

Coach Mary Bergstrom co-founded SWIM UP, a non-profit organization that provides free swim and water safety instruction to students from Washington DC’s most historically underserved communities. SWIM UP believes the cost of swim lessons should not cost children their lives. By working with two independent schools in Ward 8 that serve low-income families, they can implement their program into the schools’ curricula, at absolutely no burden or cost to families.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

SWIM UP operates completely using volunteer help and donations. They are asking local businesses, athletes, and community organizations to support their 2021 online silent auction by providing in-kind donations. 100% of the proceeds will go towards SWIM UP operating costs such as bus transportation for students, swim equipment, DPR permits, and swim instructor employment.

They will be holding their silent auction for members of the Potomac Valley Swim community virtually through GalaBid beginning on December 6, 2021. Bidding will remain open for two weeks and will close at 8pm EST on December 20, 2021.

For more information visit their Website:  www.swimup.org    Email: [email protected]
SWIM UP is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax-deductible.
